Grupo Cultural Latinos En Rochester, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) that focuses on sharing the diverse folklore of Latino communities with Western, NY. With the ongoing support of recreation centers, towns, and donors, we offer dance classes, bilingual story time, public performances and more.

Under the artistic direction of Shirley Bittlingmaier, and a family of volunteers, programs are offered to all children, adults, and seniors transcending barriers of language and culture. Our participants learn to work together and develop personal standards of excellence, a pride of achievement, and a curiosity about the Latin American world.

GRUPO CULTURAL LATINOS EN ROCHESTER, INC to “Carnaval” Project

ROCHESTER, NEW YORK – April 30, 2020– GRUPO CULTURAL LATINOS EN ROCHESTER, INC has received a grant from Genesee Valley Council of the Arts (GVCA) for its Carnaval Project. A year long multidisciplinary project which will include: Dance, costume making, authentic culinary experiences, literacy, and workshops. Dancers of all ages, with or without experience, are invited to join this event.

This project is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Genesee Valley Council on the Arts.”

Project Carnaval  will conclude with a stage performance on the fall of 2021, followed by art pieces exhibition created by the project participants. Some elements that will be featured are folkloric dance, live music, and intricate dresses from Brazil, Panama, Peru, Mexico, Colombia and many more. Each component of these programs incorporates lessons about the history of carnivals and the Latino culture and folklore. This will provide educational value for the community and will help to instill a sense of pride for those interested in Latino heritage.

The group’s mission is to promote Latin American folklore in Western New York through educational events, community workshops and meaningful live performances. GRUPO CULTURAL LATINOS EN ROCHESTER, INC Receives ($4,000) to “Carnaval” Project

ROCHESTER, NEW YORK – Thursday April 30, 2020– GRUPO CULTURAL LATINOS EN ROCHESTER, INC has received a ($4,000) grant from Rochester Area Community for its Carnaval Project. A year long multidisciplinary project which will include: Dance, costume making, authentic culinary experiences, literacy, and workshops, in the amount of $4,000. Dancers of all ages, with or without experience, are invited to join this event.

Rochester Area Community Foundation engages philanthropists and community partners to improve our eight-county region by promoting philanthropy that helps to create an equitable community and strengthen our region’s vitality.
