Educational Programs

Grupo Cultural Latinos En Rochester is committed to enrich the lives of our youth by running educational programs in partnership with different School Districts, Recreation Centers, and After School Programs. All programs culminate in a final performance for the community inspired by the curricular theme. Over the course of the program students become dancers, taking to the stage as stars in their own community, and they present their final work in different events.

Below is a sample of our most recent Educational Programs

Year 2013:
Avenue D
Avenue D Afro Latino Dance Group was born after the Educational Program Latin America Series.
Students were able to understand the fundamentals of Latin American music, dance, and rhythm. They also learned the value of team work, and how dance and music create meaning to build communities.

Spring 2014:
“Identity and mask”
Our youth worked in the creation of the folkloric character in Puerto Rico called El Vejigante. They designed their own personal masks and learned how to use them for dance performances.

Summer 2015:
“Pueblos Tainos”

This was one of a kind program where the youth learned traditional folkloric music from different countries of Latin America, also student created their own contemporary choreography. Grupo Cultural Latinos En Rochester made this program possible by these sponsors: City of Rochester and Ibero American Developmet Corporation project HOPE. Thank you!
